Makoti Medical Scheme dental benefits, in plain language
Makoti keeps its dental cover on published ground: benefits are managed by DENIS and set out in the DENIS Makoti 2026 dental table, which covers the Primary option and the scheme's other options. Routine check-ups and conservative dentistry — the exams, cleans and fillings that keep small problems small — form part of the cover, per that table.
What differs is the machinery behind each option: how the benefit is funded and which rules apply are set per option, so two Makoti members can have quite different claiming experiences depending on the option each belongs to. The 2026 table is the reference for the exact codes and limits, and it's worth checking it against your own option before treatment starts.
A few things hold true across the industry. Bigger procedures — dentures, crowns, implants, orthodontics, hospital dentistry — almost universally need pre-authorisation. Every scheme pays at its own dental tariff, and anything charged above it is for your account. And on the safety-net side, every registered scheme must fund PMB-level emergency dental care, on every option.

We claim directly from medical aids. Before treatment we do a benefit check with your scheme — bring your card and your option name — so you know what your plan pays before you sit in the chair. You pay only co-payments and anything your plan doesn’t cover or has already used up. And as always: we quote before we treat.
