2026 benefit year · compiled from the scheme’s published documents

SAMWUMED dental benefits, in plain language

SAMWUMED, the restricted scheme for municipal workers, funds dentistry identically on both of its options (A and B): as an insured benefit paid from scheme risk, managed by DENIS. There's no savings account being drained by your check-ups.

Each person gets two check-ups a year, six months apart, and the conservative list is genuinely broad: consultations, X-rays, cleans, fillings and restorative work, extractions, pain-and-sepsis treatment, and dentures with the laboratory costs included. Children under 16 also get fissure sealants and fluoride, and an extraoral X-ray is covered once every three years. The rand limits sit in the DENIS SAMWUMED 2026 table.

The ceiling comes at the advanced end: specialised dentistry is limited to PMB-level cover, subject to managed-care protocols and pre-authorisation — and if orthodontics is on your family's horizon, treatment must start before age 18.

How it works at our practice

We claim directly from medical aids. Before treatment we do a benefit check with your scheme — bring your card and your option name — so you know what your plan pays before you sit in the chair. You pay only co-payments and anything your plan doesn’t cover or has already used up. And as always: we quote before we treat.

Option by option

As published for the 2026 benefit year (checked 2026-07-29). Benefits are re-registered every year and can change — the benefit check is what makes it certain for you.
