Transmed dental benefits, in plain language
Transmed, the restricted scheme for Transnet, runs dentistry the same way on all of its options: routine care is an insured benefit paid from scheme risk, managed by DENIS, and covered according to a defined list of codes — check-ups, fillings and root canal treatment among them — rather than from a savings account.
Specialised dentistry has its own annual limit, and it's a family figure, not a per-person one: between R5,090 and R5,900 per family for 2026, depending on your option. Hospital dentistry and the anaesthetist are paid from the Major Medical benefit rather than the dental table, and network rules vary from option to option.
One rule catches people off guard: multi-surface fillings on wisdom teeth need pre-authorisation, supported by X-rays, before the scheme will pay. And as with any defined-limit benefit, once a limit is reached, the balance is for your own account.

We claim directly from medical aids. Before treatment we do a benefit check with your scheme — bring your card and your option name — so you know what your plan pays before you sit in the chair. You pay only co-payments and anything your plan doesn’t cover or has already used up. And as always: we quote before we treat.
